Kristie Miner, MA

Licensed Professional Counselor

I believe that making the decision to seek counseling is one of many first steps in facilitating positive change in a person's life. I tend to take a client centered and cognitive-behavioral approach in counseling, while ensuring that each session addresses the needs of the client. It's important that sessions are collaborative as well as interactive so that clients can focus on identifying and making progress toward their goals. During our sessions, you will find that identifying best coping strategies, strengthening problem solving skills, and exploring different perspectives are common themes.

In addition to my role at Yellow Lotus, I am an Associate Director at the Central Michigan University Counseling Center, and I am also child sexual abuse treatment therapist at Listening Ear Crisis Center in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. This work has allowed me to gain a strong understanding about trauma as well as best practices for treatment. I earned both my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Central Michigan University.

Sara Sroufe, MSW

Licensed Master Social Worker

Sara is trained as a Masters Level Social Worker, with a speciality in Clinical Social Work. Sara is passionate about helping others as they seek to find ways through difficult times of life. Sara grew up in rural Pennsylvania, and obtained a BA in Arts in Psychology in Virginia. Sara then moved to Michigan and attended Michigan State University where she completed her masters degree in 2006. Sara has worked as a counselor/therapist in Michigan ever since then!

Sara is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and has years of training in areas such as trauma, anxiety, depression, relational problems, and social conflicts. Most importantly, Sara has learned and grown as a therapist from the many adults, adolescents, and children whom she has worked with throughout her 20 year career. Sara views herself as a directive therapist, and takes an active role in treatment. She highly values forming a treatment plan based on client preference, as the change process needs to start where the client is, and actively seeks input from her client's about what strategies are proving helpful and what adjustments can be made.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Sara often drags her family outside to their gardens, goats, chickens, or woods. She has a coonhound named Cosmo, who loves to protect his family with his loud howl.
